EATON 15 kVA UPS installation
A straightforward-looking UPS installation is usually anything but, and here the site distribution was the real work. The unit went in with new breakers, earthing and a full set of test records.
A straightforward-looking UPS installation is rarely that simple, and on this site the distribution work was the real job.
Configuration: 1 × EATON 15 kVA online UPS
The challenge
The distribution board had no dedicated circuit set aside for the UPS, and the earthing system had never been tested. Connecting the unit as it stood would have risked a UPS that dropped to bypass whenever the load moved, or a cabinet left live under a fault.
What we did
We reconfigured the input and output breakers and cable sizes to match the UPS rated current, and added a manual bypass so future maintenance can be carried out without shutting the load down. The earthing was tested for resistance and equipotential bonding was completed. After installation we ran a load test and a simulated mains failure, and recorded the measured runtime. The result
The system passed commissioning at the first attempt, and the client received a complete handover pack including the distribution drawing and the test records. Future service work can be done on bypass, without interrupting the load.
