Why EATON keeps coming out on top for Hong Kong sites
Not because of the badge — because of what happens five years in, when you expand or the batteries age:
- A connected range. From a 500 VA desktop unit to megawatt-class three-phase, the monitoring software, accessories and battery practice carry across. The engineer who services your 9PX rack today already knows your 93T room tomorrow.
- Upgrades rarely mean rebuilding. Adjacent segments share wiring practice, rack dimensions and battery configurations — moving from a 9PX to a DX, or a 93T to a 93PR, usually keeps the cabinet and distribution.
- Batteries are easy to source. When the replacement cycle arrives, compatibility questions are rare — you are not forced into replacing the whole unit because a pack is unavailable.
If you only need a unit for a year or two, other brands are often cheaper. That is a fair trade — but most of our customers are buying for the life of the room.
How to read the table above
Three segments are enough to orient yourself:
- Entry — Ellipse ECO (standby), 5P and 5PX Gen2 (line-interactive). Workstations, network gear, POS, NVR — short ride-through is fine.
- Mid-power online — 9SX, 9PX and DX RT double-conversion, plus the 9PX lithium variant for hot or unmanned sites and two marine types (9PX Marine, 9155 Marine) for vessels and port systems.
- Three-phase — 93T, 93TX, 91PS/93PS, 93PM, 93PX, 93PR (including tower), 9EHD and Power Xpert 9395. Data rooms, SMT lines, heavy industry and petrochemical.
The difference between standby and online is not price — it is whether the UPS takes over before the load notices. A standby unit only switches at the moment of failure; an online double-conversion unit regenerates its output continuously, so voltage sags and surges never reach the equipment. Machine rooms, medical and production lines should always be online.
Three things to confirm before you order
- Load character. Servers and network gear are forgiving; motors, compressors and SMT equipment draw a large inrush — capacity must be sized with headroom or the unit will transfer to bypass on every start.
- Runtime. This is decided by the battery pack, not the UPS rating. The same cabinet with different batteries is a completely different proposal and a completely different price.
- Single- or three-phase. Larger ratings must match the supply at your premises. Many Hong Kong industrial buildings have three-phase incoming but only part of it available to the room — confirm this on the site survey, not after delivery.
We supply the full range with survey, sizing, installation and maintenance. Sizing before quotation is free — send the load list, site photos or your existing model number.
One caution: EATON model numbers vary more than most brands, and the same series name can cover completely different architectures. Always confirm the complete part number before ordering — the full model list shows the individual numbers we supply.
