Industrial production lines and manufacturing

One second of lost power on a production line can cost a whole batch of work in progress. On a factory floor, backup power is really about inrush current and voltage quality, not just capacity.

Industrial loads are nothing like office IT

Three differences matter most:

  1. High inrush current — motors, compressors, transformers and large capacitor banks can draw several times their rated current at start-up. Size by adding rated power alone and the UPS will overload the moment the line starts.
  2. Sensitivity to voltage quality — voltage sags and harmonic distortion cause PLC misoperation, servo faults and equipment calibration drift.
  3. High cost of stopping — a line stop is not just downtime. It means scrapped work in progress, damaged tooling, and recalibration and trial production to restart.

What we commonly protect

  • SMT placement machines, reflow ovens and related line equipment
  • PLCs, servo drives and automation control systems
  • Inspection and metrology equipment, vision systems
  • Line control PCs and HMI panels
  • Factory plant rooms and production-management servers

Key considerations when sizing

  • Inrush calculation — identify inductive and high-inrush loads; where needed, pair with variable-frequency or soft starting, or increase UPS capacity.
  • Online double conversion first — on an industrial site we default to online, for a steadier output waveform and voltage that handles both sags and distortion.
  • Isolation and earthing — floor earthing is complex, so we confirm no earth loops are created.
  • Environmental tolerance — heat, dust and vibration on the line mean cabinet protection and cooling have to match the real room.
  • No downtime during works — installation is scheduled around shutdowns or changeovers so delivery dates are not affected.

Who we work with

Electronics and SMT manufacturers, plastics and metalworking factories, food and beverage lines, pharmaceutical and chemical plants, printing and packaging, precision parts makers.
