EATON 9PX lithium UPS (1–3 kVA)

The 9PX's online double-conversion architecture with LiFePO4 batteries — battery life stretches from 3–5 years to 8–10, so the unit may never need a battery change.

Who actually needs this

The lithium 9PX is not a status purchase — it solves a specific maintenance problem: batteries in places people rarely visit. An edge room on a rooftop, a cabinet in a factory, a site served by a two-hour round trip — each battery replacement is a project. A unit whose batteries outlast the unit itself removes that entire category of work.

What UL1973 means here

It is the safety standard for stationary battery systems — covering the cells and their integration. Combined with the BMS (over-charge, over-discharge, thermal protection), it is the certification you want when lithium goes into a building's equipment room.

Key features

  • Lithium battery life two to three times that of lead-acid — 8–10 years in service
  • 80–120% more runtime in the same volume
  • LiFePO4 cells with a battery management system, UL1973 certified
  • Lithium built into the 2U chassis — no separate battery cabinet
  • Efficiency meets Energy Star requirements
  • Pairs with a network card (UL/IEC security certified) and IPM software for virtualisation shutdown

Frequently asked questions

Is the lithium premium worth it?
Run the arithmetic over the unit's life: a VRLA 9PX needs battery replacements around years 3–4 and 6–8, each a call-out plus parts. The lithium version's cells are rated for the unit's whole service life. For an attended machine room the economics are close; for an unmanned or hot site they usually favour lithium clearly.
Can I mix lithium and lead-acid units in the same room?
Yes — they are independent units. What you cannot do is convert an ordinary VRLA 9PX to lithium by swapping packs; the charging profile differs. Buy the -L variant from the start.
