What changes on board a vessel
Three things break a commercial UPS at sea, and together they explain why shore units fail so often on ships.
- Salt spray and humidity — they corrode boards and contacts. The 9PX Marine carries a conformal coating on its internal boards specifically for this.
- A far rougher supply — a ship's generator swings further in voltage and frequency than a mains supply. Online double-conversion isolates the output from the input completely, so the load always sees a clean sine wave.
- Classification requirements — a proper marine project requires class-approved equipment. The 9PX Marine carries DNV-GL approval, which can be cited directly at survey.

Both convert between rack and tower mounting, and both accept hot-swap EBMs for longer runtime.
Who this suits
- Bridge and navigation equipment on workboats, ferries and tugs
- Monitoring and communications on offshore platforms and port installations
- Cases needing a 50 Hz / 60 Hz frequency conversion — this unit can serve as the converter
For vessel projects above 8 kVA, see EATON 9155 Marine.
Key features
- DNV-GL type approval, plus CE and Energy Star
- Internal boards conformally coated against moisture, salt spray and mould — built for hot, humid machinery spaces
- Online double-conversion with automatic bypass, so continuity does not depend on a single path
- Can be used as a 50 Hz / 60 Hz frequency converter
- Multilingual LCD panel (8 languages) showing UPS and load status in real time
- RS232, USB communications card and an EPO input
- Optional hot-swap extended battery module (EBM) for longer runtime
- ABM battery management extends battery life
