Why the 9PX is the default for server racks

Most Hong Kong server cabinets we fit end up with a 9PX, for three practical reasons: the output is genuinely isolated from the mains (the load never sees a sag or a surge); the efficiency is high enough that the unit does not become the room's heater; and the battery path is expandable, so runtime can be extended later without changing the unit.

3-phase input variants

The PM31 models (9PX6KiPM31 / 8KiPM31 / 11KiPM31) accept three-phase input while delivering single-phase output — the standard answer for rooms with three-phase incoming but single-phase distribution. Getting this wrong at order time is a costly swap; confirm the supply before ordering.

Runtime planning

The internal batteries cover a few minutes — enough for a controlled shutdown, not for riding out an outage. Extended runtime comes from external battery modules (EBM), sized to the load. Tell us the load and the target minutes and we will size the string.

Key features

  • Online double-conversion — output fully isolated from the mains
  • High conversion efficiency lowers the running power and cooling bill over the years
  • Expandable battery modules extend runtime to the requirement
  • LiFePO4 lithium version — smaller and lighter at the same capacity, with far longer cycle life
  • High power density — less rack space than comparable units
  • Network card and power-management software integrate with virtualisation platforms for clean shutdown

Where it fits

Server racks

Servers, storage and switching in a cabinet — clean isolated output and reliable automatic shutdown.

Edge and branch rooms

Unattended small rooms, kept honest by remote monitoring and alerts rather than site visits.

Tight equipment spaces

Where space and floor loading are limited, the lithium version's size and weight advantage is decisive.

Frequently asked questions

When is online double-conversion actually necessary?
When the load cannot tolerate voltage disturbances: servers with dual power supplies, medical or lab instruments, or sites where the mains is visibly unstable. A line-interactive unit corrects voltage, but the load still sees the mains; an online unit does not let it through at all.
Should I choose the lithium version?
If the room is hot, unmanned, or you plan to keep the unit 8–10 years — yes. The lithium cells last two to three times longer than the VRLA equivalent, so the whole service life may pass without a battery replacement. The purchase price is higher; the total cost usually is not.
