EATON 9SX online UPS

When the load draws a surge the moment it starts, the UPS's overload capacity — not its rated VA — decides whether it survives.

The load decides, not the catalogue

The 9SX exists because a subset of loads punishes ordinary UPS units: anything with a motor, a pump or a compressor draws a start-up surge far above its running current. Where a standard online unit would drop to bypass on every start, the 9SX rides through.

Sizing note

Size the 9SX on continuous load plus worst-case inrush, not on nameplate current. We measure or itemise the load before proposing a capacity — it is free, and it is the difference between a unit that works and one that trips every morning when the compressor kicks in.

Key features

  • Online double-conversion — output isolated from the mains
  • High overload capacity — rides through the inrush of motors, pumps and compressors without dropping to bypass
  • Wide input voltage window for sites with a visibly unstable supply
  • Rack/tower convertible to fit the existing room
  • Expandable battery modules and network monitoring supported
  • Suited to un-airconditioned or hot industrial spaces

Where it fits

Industrial and line control

PLCs, control panels and servo drives — large inrush on start, needs a UPS that rides through it.

Lab and test equipment

Compressor- or pump-driven instruments carry the same start-up surge.

Harsh equipment rooms

No air-conditioning, high ambient temperature or dust — a unit built to tolerate it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does overload capacity matter so much?
A motor can draw 3–7 times its running current for a second or two at start-up. An UPS with modest overload tolerance sees that as a fault and transfers to bypass — the load then runs on raw mains, which is exactly what the UPS was bought to prevent. The 9SX is built to absorb those starts.
9SX or 9PX — how do I choose?
Same online architecture. Choose the 9SX when the load includes motors, pumps or compressors, or the room is hot and un-airconditioned. Choose the 9PX for pure IT loads where rack density and the lithium option matter more.
