The shared weakness of this class: treated as a part that needs no attention

The problem with small batteries is not quality — it is being ignored.

The UPS gets installed, recorded and looked at. The batteries sit deep inside a cabinet or inside a device, and nobody finds out they have failed until the day the power goes — and usually at the worst possible moment.

What we recommend: an actual discharge test once a year, not a voltage reading, with the measured runtime recorded. Once it has fallen more than 30% below the original figure, schedule a full string replacement. That costs far less than discovering the failure during an outage.

How we handle replacement

  • Test before replacing — we measure the real discharge capability of the existing string on site, to confirm replacement is genuinely needed and the issue is not a UPS setting or the load.
  • Whole string, same batch — no mixing old and new, so the string stays consistent.
  • Equivalent specification — we do not casually change capacity or dimensions, so it fits and it charges properly.
  • Old battery collection — lead-acid is controlled waste; we take it away rather than leaving it with you.
  • A test record on handover — we measure runtime after replacement and confirm it is back where it should be.

The battery is the only part of a UPS system that wears out. It deserves a line in the maintenance budget, and it is worth doing properly.

Key features

  • Valve-regulated (VRLA) construction: no topping up, no acid mist
  • Can be installed in any orientation except inverted, so it fits inside small equipment
  • Low self-discharge, suited to standby duty
  • For small UPS, access control, CCTV and emergency lighting
  • Stable supply — common capacities are held in stock

Where it fits

Small UPS and standby power

The standard battery size for domestic and small UPS units, with a predictable replacement cycle.

Access control and CCTV

Keeps door controllers and cameras running through an outage.

Emergency lighting and alarms

Low self-discharge suits long periods on standby.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace just one block?
No, and especially not in a series string. A string's discharge capability is set by its weakest block. A new block among old ones is dragged down by them — the old blocks have higher internal resistance and their voltage rises faster on charge, so the new block never reaches full and you are repairing it again within months. Replace the whole string from the same batch.
How do I know the batteries need replacing?
Three signs: a clearly shorter runtime on the UPS, which is the most direct indicator; a swollen or distorted case; and terminal voltage that stays low after charging. The measurement that matters is actual discharge time — do not just read open-circuit voltage. Blocks that look fine off load and collapse under load are very common.
Why do they not last as long as the label says?
Temperature is the usual reason. For every 10 °C rise, lead-acid life roughly halves. The next most common cause is being left discharged without a full recharge. Putting batteries in a stuffy corner or on top of a cabinet is a deliberate decision to shorten their life.
